Damien Cregeau will present the OLLI-Osher Lifelong Learning Institute program on Tuesday, May 1. “Life of a Foot Soldier During the Revolutionary War” will be presented at 2 p.m. at the Nolin Murray Center next to St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Pleasant St. in Springfield, Vt.
Cregeau, an independent historian, will appear in a Revolutionary War military uniform and carry his “kit” of equipment of the era. He’ll reflect on the daily life story of an ordinary soldier, told in a very personal way.
Our speaker is involved in living history by participating in re-enactments of Revolutionary War era events. He has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in history. He has been a history teacher and has spoken throughout the northeast on colonial America, military, and architectural history. Last year he presented the program, “Spies, Lies and Alibis during the Revolutionary Era.”
The following OLLI program will be just one week later on May 8, and will be “Political Polarization in the United States: Causes and Consequences” presented by Eric Davis, Professor Emeritus of political science at Middlebury College.
The May 8 program will be the final program of the spring semester. The fall semester will begin on Sept. 4.
OLLI-Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, affiliated with the University of Vermont, is a local membership program geared towards seniors 50 years and older who want to engage in meaningful learning, “just for the fun of it!” People of all ages are welcome to attend.
The OLLI series programs are selected with input from the local members and carry varied themes from semester to semester including history, art, music, literature, health, nature, science, travel, and current events.
Programs are held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons and last about an hour and a half.
Membership for the semester includes 9 programs. Non-members are encouraged and welcome to attend individual lectures for a single program fee. Memberships, as well as single program fees, may be paid at the program.
