Springfield Town Library news

Mark your calendars for National Library Week, April 8 to April 14. We’ll have coffee and local baked goods, food donations for fines and a local celebration like our counterparts in Vermont.

By Amy Howlett, Director of the Springfield Town Library

Springfield library users enjoyed organic coffee, Vermont half and half, and amazing chocolate in honor of International Women’s Day. The Springfield Food Co-op made it happen — with contributions from companies managed and staffed by women. Come in and enjoy the books displayed in honor of the day — we’ll keep them up for another week.

Local artist Bob MacRae’s “Alice in Wonderland” exhibit runs through March into April. Mixed media, a photograph of Alice Liddell, a coat of arms and a bronze engraving are some of the ways artists have interpreted their love of Lewis Carroll’s Alice. The paintings are hung above the Historical Collection files — we’re happy to bring them down to eye level for a student look.

What can I be when I grow up? Springfield children, all children, think about what work lies ahead. For Judith Nelson, born and raised in Springfield, her interests developed into a lifelong career as a professional graphic artist, and her work is displayed now in the library lobby. Children will recognize Marc Brown’s “Arthur,” of picture book and PBS fame, adults will appreciate the books on drawing and illustration, available to circulate. The exhibit runs until mid-April. We love local exhibits — please contact the library if you have a collection or topic you want to feature in the locked case.
